Before you start
List the applications, requirements, data, users and administration skills available. Separate a self-managed VPS from managed web hosting. Record renewal, billing term and licensing before comparing providers.
Choose the operating system for the software
Linux supports many websites, APIs, development tools and compatible services. SSH and root provide control, while updates, backups and applications remain your responsibility. Windows Server suits some IIS, .NET, business-software and RDP requirements. It does not automatically support every desktop Windows program, and choosing Windows does not add a GPU to the configuration.
Distinguish minimum resources from practical headroom
A small configuration can support learning or a lightweight service. Allow memory for the operating system, caches, updates and additional processes. Windows requirements depend on the image, roles and interface installed: check Microsoft’s requirements and the offer details. For databases or several services, observe representative workloads rather than translating a RAM figure into a guaranteed number of users.
Compare the whole billing term
A monthly equivalent based on twelve or twenty-four months is not necessarily payable monthly. Record the initial term total, renewal and any setup fees. The CubixServ catalogue checked on 27 October 2026 lists an entry Linux or Windows plan at €1.99 for one month. Both have 2 GB RAM, but storage and system conditions differ. Compare the actual configuration instead of assuming equal prices mean identical services.
Add only useful options
One primary IPv4 is included. At the same review date, each additional IPv4 costs €1.20/month: four extra addresses provide five in total and add €4.80/month. The included maximum is 1 Gbit/s, expandable to 6 Gbit/s at €49/month per added Gbit/s. There is no invented volume discount. The estimator separates the VPS term price, monthly options and indicative combined budget.
Check licensing and administration duties
The Windows Server Evaluation image does not include a permanent Windows licence in the VPS price. A competitor including licensing therefore offers a different service, even with comparable memory. Check software and remote-session rights too. Keep independent backups and a console recovery route. Network DDoS mitigation replaces neither backups nor operating-system security updates, and self-management still requires maintenance time.
Confirm availability and the next step
Check the displayed availability before arranging a migration. A catalogue price may remain visible while capacity is unavailable; it is not a promise of instant delivery. Choose an actual plan and term, then contact the team if needed. Network options are requested from the client area after delivery; the estimator does not order them. Once deployed, measure representative load before buying more resources.
For your situation
| Situation | Next check |
|---|---|
| Learning on a budget | Compare a small Linux configuration and allow time for administration. |
| Windows application required | Compare resources and Microsoft rights without treating Evaluation as a permanent licence. |
| Several projects | Estimate memory, storage, backups and the real need for extra IPv4 first. |
